Goal:

The Afghan Society of Halifax is a charitable organization committed to supporting Afghan refugees as they resettle in Canada. The organization’s primary goal is to become a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) to expand its capacity to sponsor and support refugees in need. The Society works across provinces to help newcomers build stable, safe, and independent lives in Canada. To achieve this goal, the organization provides comprehensive support to refugees during their first year of resettlement, including:

• Housing assistance

• Education and language support

• Employment and job search support

• Access to healthcare services

• Small business guidance and entrepreneurship support

• Transportation assistance

• Settlement and community integration support

• Other essential newcomer services

These services are provided during the first year for refugees sponsored by the Afghan community. After this initial period, newcomers are supported in becoming self-independent. If additional assistance is required, individuals and families may be connected with appropriate social assistance programs to help them continue building a stable life in Canada.
